Louise's Fancy Asparagus Casserole

Ingredients:
2 pounds fresh asparagus, cut into 1" pieces
or substitute 2 lbs. fresh broccoli
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 cups half-and-half
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
6 hard boiled eggs, sliced
1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup bread crumbs

Instructions:
1) Preheat oven to 350�.
2) Put the asparagus into a large saucepan with just enough
water to cover it.
3) Cook 'til tender, but still crisp. Drain.
4) Melt the butter in a saucepan, then stir in flour and blend well.
5) Gradually add the milk, stirrin' constantly.
6) Continue to cook and stir the flour mixture 'til thickened.
7) Stir in the salt and pepper.
8) Layer asparagus, eggs, cheese, and sauce [1/2 at a time]
in a 7x11" bakin' dish.
9) Sprinkle bread crumbs over the top.
10) Bake for thirty minutes.
