It should be entered into with abandon or not at all." __Harriet Van Horne ______________________________________Mashed Turnips Ingredients: 2 pounds turnips [about six medium sized turnips 8 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives Instructions: 1) Peel the turnips and cut 'em into chunks. 2) Put the turnips and the sliced garlic in a saucepan with a tight fittin' lid. 3) Add water to fill the pan about half way and cover. 4) Bring turnips and garlic to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer 'til the turnips are quite soft. 5) Thoroughly drain the turnips and garlic. 6) Mash the turnips and garlic together with a potato masher. 7) Stir in the butter, horseradish, salt, pepper, and nutmeg --- then mix well. 8) Stir in the chives and serve.
